In Africa un tempo esistevano delle ricche e raffinate civiltà, spesso considerate secondarie dagli storici occidentali. Oggi c’è una rivalutazione del ruolo che i popoli africani hanno portato nello sviluppo della scienza e della cultura occidentale, ma ciò nonostante, molto della storia antica di Zanzibar e dei grandi traffici sull'Oceano Indiano é ancora in gran parte sconosciuto.
Una delle antiche tradizioni di questo grande passato si é conservata a Zanzibar. E’ l’arte dei costruttori di dhow, velieri che vengono ancora costruiti come duemila anni fa, interamente con materiali naturali.
LA LEGGENDA DI ZANZIBAR è un documentario storico tra passato e presente dell’isola delle “spezie”. Un viaggio che comprende le più recenti scoperte archeologiche e la ricchezza del suo patrimonio culturale.

Rich and cultivated civilizations, often considered secondary by western historians, used to thrive in Africa. Today the contribution which African peoples have made to the development of western science and culture has been reevaluated, but notwithstanding this, much of the ancient history of Zanzibar and of the intense trading in the Indian Ocean is still today largely unknown.
One of the age-old traditions of this remarkable past still exists in Zanzibar: the building of dhows, boats built entirely out of natural materials just as they were two thousand years ago.
THE LEGEND OF ZANZIBAR is an historical journey through the past and present of the “Spice island”. Presenting the most recent archeological discoveries and the richness of its cultural heritage.
